Plants and Water

Now we are moving on to plants and water. Just like animals, plants also need water. But what else do plants need to survive? Are they the same as animals? Watch to find out....

We created our own mural as a class showing the 5 needs of a plant. Here are some photos of our mural.

Technology Challenge!!

Room 3 and 6 were given the challenge to design a product so that they could watch animals without being seen by the animals. First we planned different ideas and then chose one to develop. We made our product and took them to Bannerman Park to test them. Back at school we evaluated what worked well and what we would change. Here are our prize winners, and photos showing the different places, us making them and our final products.

Rhode winner and Mrs Clarke's pick: Romer

Term 3: Animals and Water

This term we are learning about animals and water. We will be looking at why animals need water, animal habitats, animal adaptations and animals that live in water.
We started by learning about what animals need to survive. We watched this clip.

We have found out about habitats - places where living things live. Habitats are different for different animals and plants. Play this game to test how much you know about habitats.

Use this website to learn more about animals and the environments they live in (habitats). There are fun games to play too!

We each chose an animal to research at home and find out about its adaptations - things it has which help it to survive in its habitat. In class we then each made a diorama with our animals. They are on our back wall if you would like to come in and see them. We really loved them!

TERM 1

For Inquiry Term 1 we are studying water. Here is our class brainstorm showing what we know about water in pink, and questions we have about water in purple.

We watched a YouTube clip about why water is important for us. Here is a quick glimpse of some of our ideas. To see them all come in to room 6 and check out our inquiry wall down the back of the class. Why do you think water is important?

We looked at some of the different ways we use water. Miss Copland gave us some pictures cut up that we had to put back together.

States of Matter
Today we looked at the 3 states of matter: Solids, Liquids and Gases. Here is a clip we watched which helped us to understand what they are.

Click on the 'Science Kids' link below to practise grouping solids, liquids and gases.

The Water Cycle

We have started looking at the water cycle and how water travels. We enjoyed watching this song about the water cycle before we had a go at drawing some of our own diagrams showing the different stages of the water cycle.

TERM 2 INQUIRY

This term we have been learning about ANZAC Day and World War One. It was 100 years ago that our Soldiers went to war. We participated in our own service here at Gore Main School, and many of us went to the Dawn Parade on 25th April. We came together as a junior syndicate and made collage poppies and poppy icing biscuits also. On Thursday 7th May we all went down to visit the Gore RSA and memorial. Here are some photos from our visit.
